Summative Report
Date: June 10, 2023FROM: Julian SerranoTO: Dr. WarwickSUBJECT: Individual Summative Report Memo
This summative Report attempts to review the accomplishments, challenges, and learning experiences encountered by our group throughout Project 2. It discusses individual and collective contributions, group dynamics, problem-solving strategies, and acquired learnings transferable to future projects.
Work Accomplished:For this project, we aimed to submit a grant proposal to the McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation. The grant proposal’s intention was to win money in order to introduce an engineering pathway into Tulare Western High School. My primary responsibilities included providing real-life examples for the group to use in their portions and drafting the proposal's introduction. Additionally, I coordinated with my team members to ensure cohesive writing and alignment with the grant's objectives.
Li was responsible for describing our review of literature and pieces of the project description. Her experience in finding reputable sources helped immensely for this portion of the project. Zirun handled the project description, providing details on the proposed activities, their implementation, and the expected deliverables. His experience as a chemical engineering major greatly helped our group.Tianle was responsible for drafting the budget and assessment plan, leveraging his background in project management and budgeting.
Group Maintenance:We used iMessage to foster collaboration and ensure transparency. Each of us took equal initiative to coordinate which pieces of the project needed revising or extra aid, indirectly keeping the communication open and clear among us. We all adhered to our agreed-upon timelines and responded promptly to feedback and new ideas. I was regularly revising and reviewing the different areas of the project.
Problems and Solutions:The primary challenge I faced was making sure the introduction I had drafted aligned seamlessly with the information of my fellow group mates. After discussing this issue with the group, we agreed to collaborate more closely and incorporate sources/citations appropriate and applicable for all pieces of the project. As a group, we initially struggled with finding a reason for the proposal as a whole, but Dr. Warwick’s feedback and Tianle’s background in budgeting lead us to our final ideas, proving to be the best way.
Learning, Gains, and Transfer:This project has significantly honed my research and collaborative writing skills. It has taught me the importance of open communication, constructive feedback, and the ability to compromise for a collective goal. The skills I have gained, especially the ability to work effectively in a team, will be highly transferable to future group work and professional settings. Curating a large scale project between four different individuals is something I had never done, yet something I am so happy to be a part of. This entire activity allowed me to witness an assignment with so many moving parts come together as one, to produce a seamless final work.
Final Assessments:Assigning a credit/no credit grade, I believe each group member deserves a credit for their significant contributions:
Myself: I effectively fulfilled my responsibilities and facilitated group coordination, ensuring the proposal was cohesive and aligned with the grant objectives.Tianle: His expertise in budgeting and effective collaboration significantly helped our proposal, making him a credit-worthy member .Li: She ensured clarity in our review of literature as well as providing her own feedback and ideas for the project, warranting a credit.Zirun: His meticulousness in chemical engineering and impressive ability to curate a syllabus for a sample class was crucial, justifying a credit.
Each member not only accomplished their tasks diligently but also contributed to the overall group dynamics, which led to the successful completion of our project.
